Handmade mugs: why buy them?

Handmade Mugs: Why buy them?

Whenever I travel, I always try to find a local shop and buy a handmade mug from a local potter. I love art and I believe it enhances our lives in subtle ways that allow us to feel more connected, whether that be our morning cup of coffee, a bowl of soup, or afternoon tea. There is something about handmade ceramics that can lift. This love of handmade ceramics gave me the energy to learn how to throw my handmade cups and mugs, platters, bowls, etc. I'm still relatively new, but the space for artists to share their work in a meaningful space outside of a storefront still needs to be improved. That's what this space aims to do.

My favorite handmade ceramics

Some of my favorite handmade ceramics have been purchased in person, but also online. Here are photos of my favorite art I've made, or picked up along the way!

Where to buy handmade mugs?

It's hard to find individual artists or even artists collectives without running into giant mega-companies that charge artists 16% of their sales (or more). While brand new, this space aims to give ceramic artists a space where people can see and purchase their handmade ceramics, whether it be mugs, plates, or platters. You will never find a mug here that is mass-produced. Each handmade mug, handmade plate, bowl, or vase is individual, special, and unique.

Who to buy handmade mugs from?

I am starting with my closest pottery pals from the community studio that I work out of. It's a great, collaborative space filled with a wonderfully diverse group of artisans. It is my second home.

What kind of handmade ceramics will we sell?

You will see mugs here from many artists (right now, a lot of what you see is my work. In the future, I'm hoping that brown branch ceramics can be just that. A branch for all ceramic artists to sell their amazing handmade ceramics in a series of themed releases.

Cheers,

Beth
